Following scenario will be covered as part of our training's (use comment section for training inquiry)

AWS Training Lab-20 :A customer has a 10 GB AWS Direct Connect connection to an AWS region where they have a web application hosted on Amazon Elastic Computer Cloud (EC2). The application has dependencies on an on-premises mainframe database that uses a BASE (Basic Available. Sort stale Eventual consistency) rather than an ACID (Atomicity. Consistency isolation. Durability) consistency model. The application is exhibiting undesirable behavior

because the database is not able to handle the volume of writes. How can you reduce the load on your on-premises database resources in the most cost-effective way?

Please use comment section to answer your questions. As well , please let us know if you are looking for AWS training. Our technical team will contact you for any of the following training. Answer : C

C

A, S3DistCp cannot be used
B: SQS will not reduce the load.
D: there is not enough data to conclude that moving the read load off premises would lead to better resource usage and, plus BASE is usually a characteristic of NoSql db so RDS is not the answer.

# Laurentiu V : Don't you think SQS can help in the scenario ? SQS can take the load off database by queueing the tasks and doing one write at a time into the database.

SQS will not reduce the amount of writes.

I believe it can reduce the number of writes by processing one write operation at a time or regulate by number of instances we have as SQS workers.

I think the problem is volume of writes and DB is not able to handle those many concurrent writes. SQS can ensure one or some n number of writes at a given time.

What you say ?

SQS will not change the volume of writes. Using SQS will only increase the write queue. We have no information oh how the load is over time or if there are periods of low load for the SQS to catch up. SQS would help with burst writes followed by low load.

Can't be C since that is not cost efficient at all (need DynamoDB and EMR). The answer is B. We need to reduce the load on the on-prem DB. Put the writes in SQS and drain the queue. Think of SQS as a buffer. Heavy writes, buffer those in SQS and write to the DB. Perfect solution.

Using Dynamo and EMR still writes to the on-premise database but just costs 3-4 times as much, your logic is highly flawed.

# Ashok Kumar : Why C ?
0 # prags 2016-06-27 10:17
i think its A. It can't be C as SQS won't decrease the write to DB
0 # Matt 2016-08-08 14:57
S3DistCP only copies data INTO EMR.

the hint is the BASE - it means the db is eventually consistence.

I say B
